1. Control Storage Environment (Key Factor)

Rust is mainly caused by moisture and oxygen. Keep conditions stable and dry:

Temperature: 5–25°C (avoid large fluctuations that cause condensation).

Relative humidity: ≤60% (ideally 40–55%). Use dehumidifiers in humid seasons or coastal areas.

Ventilation: Keep air circulating but avoid strong winds (which carry moisture and dust).

Cleanliness: No acid, alkali, salt, or corrosive fumes; keep floors clean and dry.

Lighting: Avoid direct sunlight (it degrades oil coatings and causes uneven heating).

Best practice: Store indoors in a climate-controlled warehouse; never place directly on damp floors.

2. Clean Thoroughly Before Storage

Residues (coolant, metal chips, sweat, oil) accelerate corrosion:

Remove all chips, dust, and old lubricant with a soft brush or air gun (dry, oil-free air).

Wipe surfaces with a clean, lint-free cloth dampened with neutral solvent (no acidic/alkaline cleaners).

Dry completely (no visible moisture) before applying protection.

3. Apply Anti-Rust Coatings

Choose based on storage duration:

Short-term (≤1 month): Light rust-preventive oil (thin, uniform film; easy to clean before use).

4. Use Proper Storage Racks & Placement

Stacking:

Small rolls (Ø ≤300 mm, length ≤1.5 m): Max 3 layers, with rubber pads between layers.

Large rolls (Ø >500 mm): Store individually.

Isolation: Keep 10–15 cm gaps between rolls; separate from other steel parts to avoid cross-contamination.

5. Seal & Cover

Wrap with VCI paper or stretch film after oiling.

Add a waterproof, dustproof outer cover (tarpaulin or plastic sleeve).

Seal ends to prevent moisture ingress.

6. Regular Inspection & Maintenance

Weekly: Check humidity and temperature; inspect covers for damage.

Monthly: Visually inspect for rust spots, discoloration, or coating degradation.
