Roll forming is a core process in stainless steel tube manufacturing. The quality, material and structural type of forming rolls directly affect tube surface finish, roundness, wall uniformity and overall production stability. Due to the high hardness, strong toughness and easy scratching characteristics of stainless steel, ordinary standard rolls cannot meet long-term continuous processing needs. Selecting matched roll types is essential to reduce surface defects, extend service life and control production costs.
First, high-alloy forged steel rolls are the most widely used type for stainless steel pipe lines. Made of high-strength alloy steel through integral forging and overall heat treatment, these rolls feature high surface hardness, strong wear resistance and stable mechanical performance. They can withstand continuous extrusion and friction during high-speed forming, effectively avoiding surface scratches, indentations and deformation on stainless steel surfaces. With good toughness and pressure resistance, alloy forged rolls adapt to mass production of ordinary stainless steel tubes and balance durability and cost.
Second, special hard alloy rolls are suitable for high-precision and thin-walled stainless steel tubes. Cemented carbide materials provide ultra-high hardness, outstanding wear resistance and low friction coefficient. In the production of thin-wall, mirror and decorative stainless steel pipes, carbide rolls can prevent metal adhesion and drawing marks, ensuring smooth and flawless tube surfaces. Though with higher comprehensive cost, they greatly reduce replacement frequency and are ideal for high-standard decorative pipe processing.
Third, surface coated functional rolls are commonly used to optimize forming quality. Based on conventional roll substrates, professional surface treatments such as chrome plating, nitriding and hardening coating are adopted. The dense protective film lowers friction, improves oxidation resistance and prevents stainless steel from cold welding or scratching during rolling. Coated rolls are cost-effective for medium and low-strength stainless steel materials and conventional structural pipe production, helping improve product yield.
Fourth, adjustable combined forming rolls fit multi-specification stainless steel tube production. This modular roll structure allows flexible adjustment of spacing and angle, meeting the forming demands of different pipe diameters and wall thicknesses. For manufacturers with diversified product lines, combined rolls reduce mold replacement time, improve production flexibility and lower equipment input costs. They are suitable for mixed production of industrial pipes and ordinary welded pipes.
Fifth, high-temperature and corrosion-resistant special rolls apply to special material stainless steel processing. High-alloy stainless steel and special industrial pipes have stronger processing stress and chemical sensitivity. Anti-corrosion and high-temperature resistant roll materials can resist thermal fatigue and chemical erosion during long-term operation, maintaining stable forming accuracy in harsh working conditions.
In actual selection, manufacturers need to combine pipe material, wall thickness, surface requirements and production capacity. Ordinary industrial welded pipes can choose alloy forged rolls; high-grade decorative and mirror pipes prioritize carbide or coated rolls; multi-specification mixed production is matched with combined adjustable rolls. Reasonable roll matching can reduce abrasion defects, stabilize forming accuracy and cut long-term maintenance costs.
In conclusion, the mainstream rolls for stainless steel tube production include alloy forged rolls, cemented carbide rolls, surface coated rolls, combined adjustable rolls and special anti-corrosion rolls. Scientific selection according to production positioning can effectively improve processing quality, ensure continuous and stable operation of the unit, and create reliable production conditions for stainless steel tube forming.
